1/1/10 - Brother B - NOW is the time to order NEW HIVES AND EQUIPMENT. So far I am holding to 2008 prices (that is right, 2008) and I have sufficient stock on hand. As we get closer to Spring wood and equipment will be in
shorter supply. Every year this supply shortage happens throughout the industry to include the manufacturers. By the first of March my work load will be nearly full and there will be greater delays getting hives made. As always contact me via email at s_briles@hotmail.com for a price list and to order (underscore between the s and the b). Please remember
to put "Brother B" in the subject line so your email is not filtered as spam.

1/1/10 - I would like to thank all of you who purchased essential oils from me last year.  This year I suggested the Association sell them as a way to help fund the BAB program.   Our product, called Honey Bee Oil, comes in a 4 ounce bottle that will make approximately 46 batches.  It contains spearmint, lemongrass, thyme, and eucalyptus oils, plus lecithin.
As we all know, sugar is devoid of nutrition. So while we are providing our bees with energy, sugar syrup is doing nothing to help keep them healthy.  Spearmint is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and amino acids (amino acids are to protein as letters are to words).   The bees really aren’t all that interested in spearmint oil so the lemongrass is added to get their attention, as the smell of lemongrass is similar to one of the queen’s pheromones.  Thyme and eucalyptus have been added as research indicates they interfere with the reproductive cycle of the Varroa mite.   Lecithin is a vegetable product that acts as an emulsifier to mix the oils and water.  Without it the oils would not mix in, instead would sit on top of the syrup. After drinking all the syrup, the concentrated oil would be toxic to the bees.
Honey Bee Oil, $15 for 4oz bottle and $30 for 8oz; will be available at the monthly Association meetings.  All proceeds go to fund the BAB program.  I will still have the small individual bottles.
