The Beekeeper's Handbook by Diana Sammataro and Alphonse Avitabile

Here is a great little book for any beekeeper. The authors have provided a consice overview of all the pertinent aspects of the hobby. The book is illustrated throughout and has proven to be an invaluable resource to me throughout the beekeeping year. The appendices alone are worth the purchase price (and the trouble to locate a copy) as they cover topics like: Sting Physiology, Bee anatomy, building and maintaing observation hives, hive parts, veil information (tying and how to make your own), properties of honey and some fun facts.

I am strongly recommending this book to beginners and establhished beekeepers alike. The information contained in here is intelligently organized, easy to read and very informative. There are sections on bee pests and diseases that are very helpful as well as sections on queen rearing and lists of nectar producing plants (as well as a list of commercial crops that require bee pollination).

When they say handbook - they aren't joking! You will find this book very helpful. The second edtion is the recommended edition as it is more thorough than the first.
