Book Reviews for At the Hive Entrance

At the Hive Entrance by H. Storch

This interesting little German book gives some excellent information that is very useful for the American beekeeper. The premise of the book is that you can observe a tremendous amount about what is happening inside your hive by just watching the activity at the entrance.

The book is organized by season (starting with winter) and is very helpful. The pages for each section are in columns with the first being "Observation" and second being "Explanation". After observing your hive entrance, you can look up the activity for the season and understand what is happening inside the hive without opening it and disturbing the hive.

Although this book can be difficult to locate, obtaining a copy can be rewarding for the beekeeper who does not want to open their hives just to see what is going on. Observation at the hive entrance can be more relaxing and is an activity that even nonbeekeepers can be participate in.
